Our First Blog! (aka the Trials and Tribulations of a Support Monkey)

Who knew it would be this easy? Thanks to our new friends Jenn and Eugene we have been shown the light of blogging! Well, actually, Nate is already a master blogger at http://www.citycoach.org/ but i don't want to use this as a forum to cross-market blogs, or at least not yet. And that one is a triathlon oriented blog while i think "The Adventures of Glostick and The Naterator" will be more of a well-rounded, all-encompassing Adventure-type blog (obviously!).

So... where do i begin. Probably with triathlons. Nate just came in 2nd place in his age group at the USA National Sprint Triathlon championships in Ithaca, NY last weekend. If Nate had been better about putting these kind of events on the calendar i might have actually been able to go along to 1) drive him to the event, 2) check in with him multiple times on the morning of the race in the transition area to see if he needs anything, 3) map out the best spectating stations for photo ops, 4) shout out what place he is in during the race out of the swim, bike, and run (as long as he is in the top 10, otherwise i keep my mouth shut), 4) yell supportively to him as much as possible as he whizzes by with barely any aknowledgement that i am there, 5) take pictures along the way, 6) meet him at the finish line, and 7) drive him back after the race. Support Monkey-ing is hard work, but i've been told i'm the best! Hey, it's nice to be the best at something!

Next race: Nate is doing the Central Park Tri this Sunday (he is last year's defending champ) and then Timberman 1/2 Ironman for Nate in NH on Aug 17th, and Harriman Sprint Tri for me and Alyse that same day. I feel bad that the Support Monkey is not going to be at Timberman for Nate in his first 1/2 Ironman, but I am confident he will be fine without me. My big goal for Harriman is to keep the bike wheels in contact with the ground at all times and to keep myself out of contact with the ground at all times. It's more challenging than it looks and i have not gotten on the bike since my little "incident" at the Flat as a Pancake (literally and literally) Tri in Staten Island at the end of June. The real question is how do i get a support monkey of my own? Please submit all applications here!
